Pillow Frenzy

Do you remember my favorite spicy red color? Well, my spicy granny chairs have found a happy home at my mom's house and all of a sudden stores are selling a ton of throw pillows featuring that fun, hot red. Because it's so hard to resist a good throw pillow (or 10!), my mom bought a bunch of red as well as black, white, gold, and gray (her go-to decor colors), to spruce things up. We had a great time playing, and I just love how all of these different patterns and textures work together.

Personalized Pillows

I'm a fan of Red Envelope's personalized pillows. Just one in a room adds such personality!

The clean and simple graphics are nice as is but some pillows give you an opportunity for a more personal message. Take the Sophia pillow above – underneath Sophia it says "likes to color outside the lines". How cute is that? The Love pillow is shown with a couple's name underneath but why not change it to say "THE SMITH FAMILY" or go more generic and just write "LOVE YOU ALWAYS".

Looking for a special housewarming gift or a unique present for a new baby? Then these pillows are for you.

Ferm Living

Ever since I got the wilderness wallpaper for my family room, I've been a fan of Ferm Living. Through the Scandinavian Design Center, I found that they have much more than wallpaper in their collection. Here are some favorites:

This graphic teapot looks like it would be right at home with the bib and blanket I posted about last week.

For a flash of cool, add this lightning bolt pillow to your kid's room or even your living room couch.

Wall decals are popular but I haven't seen mini hearts like this before. Aren't they sweet?

And finally, I had to add in a wallpaper. Don't these clouds just seem happy?

Pillow Pairings

I'm a big fan of this sofa. Clean lines, sleek and sophisticated, and in a pretty midnight blue. It's the kind of couch that can be dressed up or down to fit any style home or any color palette.

Here are a few ideas:

Which do you like the best? I'm really drawn to that chevron pattern but then again that hello pillow just makes me smile.

One Settee Two Ways

I recently came across this settee and was struck by it's clean shape and fabulous pattern. It got me thinking -- where would I put such a bold piece in a home? Two places came to mind: an entryway and in a girls bedroom.

In the entryway, the settee would be the main event, contrasted against green/gray walls and accented with some natural materials like that woven basket (perfect for magazines or to use as a basket to transport items upstairs). The coat rack has some exposed wood that relates to the basket but the gray lacquered base keeps the look clean and modern. The bone inlay mirror adds lightness and a subtle sheen, bringing out the creamy color in the settee's ikat fabric.

Using the settee in a girls bedroom, though, would be completely different. Here it would still make a statement but it wouldn't be as look-at-me since shades of pink would be used throughout the room. The walls would be a soft gray. The bed would be made with pink polka dot sheets and a crisp white duvet with a thin throw in bright orange draping over the duvet. A vibrant, colorful pillow would be tossed on the bed along with this sweet cloud pillow. I picture the settee sitting at the foot of a full-size bed but it could work anywhere in the room. Did you notice the repetition of form between the circle shapes on the sheets, the table and the cloud pillow's cheeks? A small detail but one that I think would make the room all the more cohesive.

What do you think? If you like the settee but aren't as keen on the pink, it's also available in a graphite/yellow ikat or in a simple sandstone color. But color aside, where would you put this piece? In an entryway or in a bedroom? Or do you have another idea? We'd love to hear from you. Please share!

Cheap and Chic

Looking for a quick update to your home and about to have some company stay over? Look at the email I recently received:

This sofa bed is streamlined, good-looking and cheap...and on sale for only $199! What a steal. I love multi functioning pieces and when they are pretty, even better. The stone color would work well in my place. And it's the perfect backdrop for fun pillows like these pairings:

Sale ends on Saturday. Will you have something new to sit and sleep on by the time the weekend is over?

Mustaches That Make Me Smile

My husband is a huge fan of mustaches and his affinity for them has kind of rubbed off on me. A while back, I wrote about our plans for a mustache wall of fame on this wallpaper in our bathroom.

If dedicating only one room of the house to mustaches is not enough, though, here are some witty little ways to bring some more 'stache into your home.

What do you think?  Are these mustaches making you smile, too?

Room Service

I recently took a trip to San Francisco and really fell in love with the city. It is so amazing!

One of the best shopping finds of my trip was the store Room Service. I had read about it on Emily Henderson's blog as a frequent source on Secrets From a Stylist, and was super excited to find it while strolling through San Francisco's Hayes Valley neighborhood.

I picked up a couple of great accessories but unfortunately couldn't take any of the furniture with me. So I thought I would share some of my favorite finds here instead.

Room Service has some really great living room displays featuring upholstered sofas in luxe gray textiles. The nailhead trim on these pieces is dynamite.

(Did you catch the curvy white legs on this piece above? I love that detail!)

The sofa below has such a clean silhouette. The illustrations on the pink and white throw pillows keep this piece from taking itself too seriously. What a great touch!

For a totally different look, try these shiny lacquered pieces in black and bright pops of color.

How could you not love a peace-sign-shaped chair in hot pink?

This curvy lacquered chair and mirrored desk would add some serious sparkle to any space.

And just for good measure, I had to include this chair. I've never seen anything like it! I love the extremely tall back and the moroccan print. This would make a great statement piece in an entryway...or a pair of these at opposite ends of a dining table in a room with vaulted ceilings would be quite dramatic.

Next time you are on the west coast, be sure to check out Room Service!

Graphic Gray and Yellow

As evidenced by the gray dresser in my bedroom, I'm totally into gray and yellow. Bold and graphic patterns make this color combo even more fun.

Hip Hip Hooray!

Three cheers for pom poms -- Pom Pom Pillows, that is.

Look how sweet and fun these are!  Spotted at CB2, all 3 pillows are great but my favorite is the grey with its multi-hued little balls bringing in a punch of unexpected color.

Here's hoping these little pom poms bring some cheer to your day, too.

Best of...West Elm Fall 2011

Two weeks ago, I wrote about my favorite new items at Urban Outfitters.  Today, it's West Elm's turn. I've been a fan of West Elm for years but their new collection has me really excited.  The patterns, materials, and textures would add great depth to a space.

I'm especially fond of these items that look like you picked them up on an exotic travel vacation.

And finally, there is this laundry basket.  I've been looking for one just like this but in black. Anyone know where I can find that?

Missoni for Target

Target just unveiled the look book for their latest collaboration with Missoni and we are so inspired! Target stores will be carrying over 400 items with the signature Missoni look. We thought we would share our favorites with you.

This outfit has such an unexpected color palette. I wouldn't have thought to combine black, gray, and browns but the combination feels fresh and timeless. This same color palette would be interesting in the home. (For anyone looking to add some masculinity into a space, this color palette would definitely do it.)

But, masculinity aside, it's the shoes in that outfit that are by far my favorite.

And finally, we've mentioned "ruffle goodness" on this blog before, but how about ripple goodness? That pillow on the right is simply amazing.

The Missoni for Target collection hits stores on September 13th. We can't wait!
