Spicy Red

Inspired by this lampshade from Anthropologie...

Comes my favorite color of the year—Habanero Pepper from Benjamin Moore (also known as Habanero Chile from Sherwin Williams). This spicy hue packs a lot of heat but has enough restraint that it's easy on the eyes.

I have such a crush on this color and am finding little excuses to use it all over the place—from reviving estate sale finds to painting the inside of closets, I can't seem to get enough. Just look how nicely it works as an accent!

These doors are amazing—Just a little bit goes a long way. 

It's funny, too. When I googled this color, I found the following description from Real Simple:

"Best Red for a Flea-Market Find?" Yeah...that sounds about right :)

Mini Ikea

Last week I posted about my favorite room from the Ikea 2014 catalog. I'm slowly perusing the catalog and each day finding more things I like in it. Today, it's all about mini Ikea – cool finds and clever ideas for the little ones in your life.

Like this mini dollhouse furniture – I'm loving the mini Expedit unit and graphic rug.

And this idea of creating a zone in an unused corner in your home. Kids (and adults) don't always need a couch. A rug and pillows make an equally welcoming space.

And then there is this storage unit.

Designed, I think, as a storage unit for toys and kids clothes, I'm loving how it's shown it here – like a mini home for a lucky little dolls. With some artwork on the walls and space for a blanket and maybe a teeny rug, what a way to encourage the little interior decorator in your child!

Pretty Purple Doors

I convinced my mom that her front door would look amazing in a deep shade of purple and this weekend we set about painting it. Wooh! Going from white to purple is a bit of a shock! I think it will take some time to get used to and I can't believe how much the color changes throughout the day depending on the light. It really is amazing. I will definitely share photos with you soon but until then, I thought this roundup of purple doors would help to convince us that we made the right decision. These are spectacular!

A New Billy Bookcase

I'm a big fan of lining the backs of bookcases. I did it in my dining room,

my daughter's room,

and have suggested it to many friends and family through the years. Ikea recently updated their popular Billy bookcase (the original white one is in my daughter's room above) to have a black exterior and patterned interior.

These bookcases would be great on their own or in multiples in a bedroom, living room, or even a master bathroom. Wouldn't this look great in a bathroom filled with fluffy, white towels, a pretty candle and some woven baskets? And though eye-catching, it can still be dressed to suit your style – it would be equally nice with a pop of color, the addition of wood accents, or even touches of gold.

The next best thing to going to the beach is staring at these dreamy paintings by artist Isca Greenfield-Sanders. Get carried away by her amazing portfolio here.

A few months ago, while my mom and I were cleaning out closets and reorganizing, we stumbled upon my dad's little collection of vintage cameras. They are in great shape and I can't wait to decorate with them. I love the way they are styled in these images and want to try something like this for myself.

I just had to include the next image here, too. Check out the vintage camera display at the Toronto graphic design and photography firm, A Nerd's World. Pretty amazing!

Ikea 2014

Ikea's big fall catalog came out a few weeks ago and I am still going through the pages reviewing what they have and getting inspired. A favorite so far is this image.

A glamorous dressing/sitting area with punchy yellow chairs, stunning chandelier, luxe drapes and wallpaper. Don't you just want to be sitting in here dreaming up which fabulous gala you'll be attending next?

And then looking at Ikea's online catalog, I found the room in the making. So fun! Here's the breakdown:

One of my favorite things about the room is the wallpaper backed PAX wardrobe. I've lined wallpaper behind bookcases before but never one to match the wallpaper behind the bookcase, too. It makes the wardrobe look like a built-in. Of course, for a much cheaper price than a built-in, though.
